We believe that the God who created all things is also the God who spoke. His speaking has been written down by the prophets and apostles, and His words inform our preaching, teaching, praying, singing, speaking, and our life together at Salem. Guests and visitors are always welcome to join us; please introduce yourself to the Pastor before worship and stay for coffee & treats in the parish hall every Sunday!
During the school year, from September through May, children ages 3+ worship with their family and the Congregation, and then meet together after the service with their classes for prayer, catechism recitation, singing, and learning the mighty deeds God has accomplished for His people. Instruction begins at 10:10 a.m. after the children receive a treat in the parish hall and concludes by 11:00 a.m. In 2024-2025 we have 30 children on the parish roster.
"Catechesis" is the fancy word for learning God's Word. This primarily takes place during the Divine Service, but is supplemented throughout the year by instruction for the children in the Sunday School, Youth Catechesis on Wednesday afternoons during the school year for those aged 10+ (leading to Confirmation), and Adult Bible Study on Sunday mornings year-round, usually beginning at 10:20 and going until 11:00 a.m. Instruction is also offered to any seeking to learn more about God's Word or the Lutheran Church, scheduled with Pastor as requested throughout the year.
Our Lord Jesus Christ has given His Church two precious treasures called the "Means of Grace": commanding Baptism for all the nations so that all would be reborn by water and the Spirit (Matthew 28; John 3). We believe that even the littlest children can possess faith by the Holy Spirit through the Word of God and, therefore, children are baptized in our Parish. Parents are to meet with the Pastor for such arrangements. Our Lord also instructs His Church to partake of His Supper, "Do this in remembrance of Me." We are to eat and drink His Body and Blood frequently for the forgiveness of sins. The Holy Communion is offered at Salem on the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th Sundays of each month, as well as on Feast Days (Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, Trinity). Our Parish practices Closed Communion. Please speak to the Pastor before approaching the Altar.
The first estate instituted at the very foundation of the world by the Almighty Father was marriage. This estate is patterned on the holy mystery of Christ's union with His Bride, the Church (Ephesians 5). If you would like to enter into marriage with God's Word and Blessing, please meet with the Pastor.
